Bylaws fall into three categories: Active, In-Active and Repealed.
- Active bylaws are still in force and applicable now.
- In-Active bylaws are ones that have a fixed life span. A tax bylaw is one example, as it is valid only for one tax year. Another example would be a borrowing bylaw which becomes In-Active when the loan is fully repaid.
- Repealed bylaws are ones that have been rescinded and are no longer valid.
